Pierre Bartet was a third-generation French cabinetmaker, an expert in cabinet design and manufacturing. In his early years, his passion was for wood carving. In the US since 1947, he operated his own factory in the Washington, DC area, Georgetown, Rosslyn, and Rockville.

In 1962, at the request of Jacqueline Kennedy, Pierre was commissioned to restore many of the antique furniture in the White House. Later, in 1972, he was also commissioned to design the “Mace” cabinet for the United States Congress.

In his later years, Pierre Bartet produced many oil paintings. He specialized in seascapes, landscapes, and portraiture. Many of his works are currently in private collections in the United States, France, and Japan.
